The Art of Flowers through the Eyes of Children May 5 - 26, 2024
Being on the campus of Featherstone Center for the Arts provides unique opportunities for our children to explore the intersection of nature and art. Our children spend several hours outdoors each week, enjoying the features of the Featherstone campus, and exploring the adjacent land bank conservation trails. They have developed an intimate relationship with their environment, including the wonders of nature that inspire curiosity and awe.
But more than that, our children are witness to the passion and talents of many artists in our community. Our children encounter outdoor sculptures on the grounds, watch community artists drop off their artwork for gallery shows, and enjoy visits to the Francine Kelly Gallery where they are immersed in art and inspired to create. One of the greatest opportunities we have at Featherstone is to encounter the artists themselves, and to build relationships that support the children’s learning and development. We are grateful to Frank Creney and for his generosity in inviting our children into the pottery studio and collaborating with them to create vases for this show.
The Art of Flowers through the Eyes of Children offers those around us an insight into the children’s thinking, their experiences, and their joys. We hope that visitors to the exhibit are touched by the children’s work, and their desire to share it with our community. We would like to express our gratitude to Featherstone Center for the Arts for this opportunity to make our children’s thinking visible, and to shine a light on their creativity.
