Advanced Beginner (must have basic knitting knowledge, how to knit & purl, cast on & off). In this class learn to craft a pair of fingerless gloves or mittens with thick chunky yarn. Techniques include working in the round and learning how to make a thumb gusset. This is an advanced beginner class, for those able to knit, purl, and cast on and off. |
Knitting for Baby with Helen Hall
Days: Mondays Date: March 3, 10, 17 Time: 5:30PM - 7:30PM each week Location: Art Barn Library Fee: $210 for 3 week course, includes all materials (yarn, needles and pattern). Advanced Beginner (must have basic knitting knowledge, how to knit & purl, cast on & off). Join us for a three week course where we will learn necessary skill sets for creating family heirloom quality knits for a special baby in your life. Knitting for babies is very rewarding as the items knit quickly due to the small scale. This course will cover the importance of yarn selection and pattern reading. We will begin a baby sweater, hat, blanket and booties. This is not an entry level class and attendees must know the basics: casting on and off, the knit and purl stitch. |
ART NIGHT! Crocheted Coasters with Ellika Edelman
Date: Wednesday, March 19 Time: 5:00PM - 7:00PM Location: Art Barn Library Fee: $50, includes materials (hook and yarn). Curious about crochet? Come learn the basics of this fiber art in a fun 2 hour workshop. Crochet is a process of creating textiles by using a crochet hook to interlock loops of yarn or other strands of materials. During this Art Night, students will practice making a chain and using a single stitch to create a square or circular coaster. Working with secondhand yarn, Students will leave the class having one coaster, if not a set of two! All levels of crochet experience are welcome. |
Wet Felting Bag Workshop with Rory Valentine
Date: Saturday, March 22 Time: 10AM-4:30PM (with 1/2 lunch break) Location: Drawing Studio Fee: $140, includes all materials In this class you will learn how to make a one of a kind bag using the foundational 3-D seamless felting method. Once this technique is learned you will have the keys to explore a wide range of three dimensional felt works. Students will have the option to finish their bags with a cord strap. This is a beginner friendly class however it is important to note that wet felting is a physically active making experience, including periods of standing and rolling the work (think dough or clay slab). That said the effort only enhances the sense of accomplishment you will feel donning your own unique piece of wearable art! |
ART NIGHT! Fiber: Needlework with Helen Hall
Date: Monday, March 31 Time: 5:30PM - 7:30PM Location: Art Barn Library Fee: $60, includes all materials (embroidery hoop, fabric and needles). Needlework is often used to describe the many forms of fiber art which include sewing, embroidery, needlepoint, cross stitch, crochet, knitting, needle felting to name a few. Anything that uses a needle or hook for construction, can be called needlework. Join us and learn about the many different types of this slow art form and start a few simple embroidery, cross stitch and needlepoint projects to take home with you to finish at your leisure. Wine, tea and light snacks included (or BYOB). |

Rug Hooking Open Studio with Island Hookers

They will be available to answer questions and provide guidance while completing a project or starting a new one, or just come for company and conversation while working! Island Hookers is a group of local rug hookers passionate about their craft! They hope to spread interest in rug hooking and are donating their time to teach workshops and oversee open studios. |
Stitched Floral Fabric Collage Workshop with Rory Valentine
Date: Saturday, May 24 Time: 2:00PM - 5:00PM Location: Art Barn Painting Studio Fee: $70 includes all materials Come and play with color, line, texture and pattern using recycled fabric pieces, thread and paint. Learn to transfer an image of your choosing to a base fabric then cut, layer, stamp, and hand stitch your way to an original work of collage! No previous sewing experience required. All materials necessary to complete a 6"x6" square or round piece will be provided; however, please feel free to bring any fabrics or threads of your own to use. Incorporating elements from your life serve to imbue works with additional personal meaning. |
Beginner Rug Hooking Workshops with Island Hookers
Date: Wednesday, February 5 Time: 3:00PM - 5:00PM or 6:00PM - 8:00PM Location: Art Barn Drawing Studio Fee: $70, includes materials to make 10"x10” mat (wool and linen backing with pattern). Tools will be provided for class and can be purchased separately to take home (14” hoop, 5.5” bent handle scissors, and hook for $50). Rug hooking is like painting with wool - in this 2 hour beginner workshop, students will learn how to hand hook a 10”x10” mat. Students will be given the choice to hook a Heart, Snowflake, or Sunflower design. Students will leave the session with their linen backing with design and all the wool required to finish their 10” x 10” mat. For those who do not have their own tools, there is the option to purchase the tool 'kit' (hoop, bent handle scissors and hook - this will be needed to complete the project at home). Island Hookers host a weekly Rug Hooking Open Studio on Wednesday evenings (4-7PM), which is also an excellent opportunity to work on projects and finish your first mat with assistance. Lynn Marquedant, Debbie Grant and Becky Flanders will be instructing the February workshops with assistance from other Island Hookers. Island Hookers is a group of local rug hookers passionate about their craft! They hope to spread interest in rug hooking and are donating their time to teach workshops and oversee open studios. |

It’s time to take your basic knitting skills and make something great— a hat, just in time for the winter months. Join Zoe Thompson of ZKnits for a hat making class! Learn to knit in the round, decrease stitches, and read a pattern. Supplies provided for one hat, coordinating pom pom, needle and pattern.
