Needle Felted Flowers with Rory Valentine
Date: Saturday, May 25 Time: 2:00PM - 4:00PM Location: Art Barn Library (or outside, weather permitting) Fee: $50 includes all materials Needle felting is a simple yet dynamic technique of using barbed needles to entangle wool fibers into 2-D and 3-D forms. In this class, we will take inspiration from The Art of Flowers exhibit to sculpt our own colorful blooms. Students can expect to make 1-2 small flowers - you will be able to felt a stem if you choose, or create these flowers to pin to you jacket, add to a hat or basket! |

ART NIGHT! Fiber: Needlework with Helen Hall

Could your next hobby be one of the needle arts? Needlework is often used to describe the many forms of fiber art which include sewing, embroidery, needlepoint, cross stitch, crochet, knitting, needle felting to name a few. Anything that uses a needle or hook for construction, can be called needlework. Join us and learn about the many different types of this slow art form and start a few simple embroidery, cross stitch and needlepoint projects to take home with you to finish at your leisure. ART NIGHT! Fiber: Handheld Weaving with Katama Murray
Date: Thursday, March 7 Time: 5:00PM - 7:00PM Location: Art Barn Library Fee: $60 includes all materials & mini loom to take home Learn to weave by hand using small, handheld wooden looms! This method of weaving allows the process to become more accessible for makers of all experience levels, while the personal scale affords further opportunities for creating on the go, wherever you may roam. During this 2-hour workshop, students will learn the basics of simple tapestry weaving on a mini loom using organic, foraged materials and naturally dyed fibers. Each student will warp their very own loom and experiment with "bookmark" weaving techniques to create texture, color stories, and patterns on the frame. We will embrace our surroundings and settle into stillness as we tune into the meditative qualities of weaving. Inch by inch, row by row, participants will gain an understanding of the creative capacity of small-scale weaving. Wine, tea and light snacks included (or BYOB). |
New to Knitting with Helen Hall
Days: Tuesdays Dates: March 5, 12, 19, 26 Time: 10:00AM - 12:00PM Location: Art Barn Library Fee: $230 includes knitting tote and all materials. New to Knitting is a 4-week series in which each week a new knitting technique will be introduced along with knitting terms and vocabulary and pattern reading. The 4-week series is intended for those who have never knitted or those who wish to deepen their skill sets. Week 1: Casting on and the garter stitch on straight needles. Week 2: The purl stitch, different stitch combinations and casting off Week 3: Increasing and decreasing Week 4: Knitting in the round and double pointed needles. |
Up-Cylced Mittens with Rory Valentine
Date: Saturday, February 24 Time: 10:00AM - 1:00PM Location: Art Barn Library Fee: $70 includes all materials Reimagine an old favorite sweater into an artful pair of cozy mittens! In this 3 hour class, you will make a simple pattern, cut, and hand sew a pair of bespoke mittens made from recycled sweaters. Then add visual details by trying out a variety of surface design techniques using vintage buttons, embroidery stitches, and other embellishments. All materials will be provided although you are welcome to bring your own old favorite sweater(s) to work with. This class is beginner-friendly. |

Learn How to Knit a Hat with Zoe Thompson
Date: Thursdays Date: Session 1: February 1, 8, 15 Time: 5:00PM - 7:00PM each week Location: Art Barn Library Fee: $150, includes all materials (yarn for one hat, coordinating pom pom, needles and pattern). Advanced Beginner (must have basic knitting knowledge, how to knit & purl, cast on & off). It’s time to take your basic knitting skills and make something great— a hat, just in time for the winter months. Join Zoe Thompson of ZKnits for a hat making class! Learn to knit in the round, decrease stitches, and read a pattern. Supplies provided for one hat, coordinating pom pom, needle and pattern. This is an advanced beginner class, for those able to knit, purl, and cast on and off. |
