December 2024 Dear Featherstone Friends,
As the 2024 holiday season begins, we want to thank you for your ongoing support of our organization, and ask you to please consider a gift to Featherstone Center for the Arts during our annual appeal. It is your generosity that lays the foundation for the many wonderful opportunities that Featherstone provides to our Martha’s Vineyard island community.
Visiting our Holiday Gift Show here at Featherstone, I am reminded of how much joy this campus brings to our community. It is uplifting to be surrounded by excitement and creativity, and to experience how Featherstone connects our community. Like you, I have witnessed this joy and connection countless times at Featherstone.
Featherstone offers a creative outlet for so many. From young children in our popular after school programs and summer art camps; to the artists who exhibit their work in our gallery, and the visitors who enjoy the shows; to the many students who attend classes and workshops (pottery, painting, jewelry, knitting, printmaking, rug hooking, mixed media, writing and so much more); to guests for Musical Mondays and Fridays, poetry readings and author talks, and our Photographers Salon. Regardless of age, interest, or ability, there is something for everyone at Featherstone!
This past year I have been wowed multiple times. Listening to Delita Martin speak about her work during the August exhibit Sometimes My Blues Change Colors, and her discussion with the Smithsonian American Art Museum's Curator of African American Art was impressive and inspirational. This fall I was thrilled to welcome you to The Art of the Horse exhibit, my personal passion for riding made this community show one of my favorites. Bob Avakian’s stunning photograph King of the Hill is ingrained in my memory.
I am honored to have stepped into the role of Chair of the Board of Directors this past September. As we look ahead, the future is bright. Emerging from a year of reflection and planning, we are committed to growing our staff, improving our facilities, continuing our broad array of education and experiences, and to strengthening and celebrating an inclusive and diverse environment. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this dynamic organization and to contribute to the meaningful work we do to uplift, connect and inspire each of you. As we approach the year’s end, I invite you to join me in making a contribution to Featherstone. Together, let’s nurture this creative haven that means so much to us all, and continue to pursue our mission to engage, enrich and connect our community through the power of art and creativity.
Sincerely,
Debbi Alves Chair, Board of Directors
