Focused on presenting a wide spectrum of LGBTQ stories, people and issues, this year's festival has grown significantly with the addition of collaborative partnerships with other Vineyard non profits: Featherstone Center for the Arts, The MV Playhouse, Alex's Place (the teen center at the Y), The Animal Shelter of MV, and the Martha's Vineyard Library Association. Apart from screening fifteen feature films, this year's offerings include a live theatre play reading, a discussion of this year's all-island "Teen Read" novel DEAR RACHEL MADDOW with author Adrienne Kisner in attendance, a white-line printing workshop at Featherstone, a writing and art contest open to all middle- and high-school students, as well as an Open House for parents and teens at Alex's Place.
White Line Printmaking Workshop with Fae Kontje-Gibbs
Date: Sunday April 28, 2019
Location: Featherstone's Printmaking Studio
Fee: $45 (includes all materials). Pre-registration required. Class size limited.
Featherstone instructor Fae Kontje-Gibbs leads a three-hour workshop about the white-line printing technique developed by Edith Lake Wilkinson (the subject of Saturday’s film PACKED IN A TRUNK).
White line monoprinting is a sophisticated form of coloring. You carve out simple lines, abstract or figurative, drawn on a rubber block. As you paint and print each section individually, a brilliant, glowing image emerges. No press is needed making this easy to do at home. Every print is unique!

Come explore printmaking at Featherstone during these two day weekend workshops, suitable for beginner to advanced artists! Our studio is well equipped with wonderful materials. We have rubber and carving tools for making relief prints and stamps. We have Geli plates for hand printing as well as three different presses for making larger monotypes. If there is interest we can also explore a variety of other printmaking techniques.
The medium of monotype, the “painterly print,” is perfect for beginner and experienced artists. Each image is made uniquely and can employ everything from rollers and brushes to sandpaper and lace. Colorful and textural, they also provide great starting points for mixed media, collage, and further drawing/painting.
