Making Memories - Plein Air Family Art Adventures
with Coral Shockey Day: Saturdays Time: 1:00 - 3:00PM Dates: TBD Location: Outside at Featherstone (lower green near the cow field and children's studio) Cost: $150 per 6 person group This Fall, Featherstone would like to soak up every ray of warm golden sunshine and enjoy nature’s abundant array of colors this harvest season and create art together outside. Using the fall foliage as our plein air backdrop and art inspiration, Coral Shockey will lead an art experience for our Island families to come draw and paint the beautiful serene landscape that surrounds us. The plein air art class will include drawing with an assortment of colored pencils, oil pastels and crayons to warm up creative artist minds, hearts and hands before painting with acrylics on canvas. Art tables will be placed 20 feet apart throughout Featherstone’s sweeping upper campus to create a safe socially distant plein air class. Artists can reserve a table for the two hour class and fill their tables with their families who may include whomever your safe Covid family pod may be. Each table will be carefully set for 6 artists with a maximum of 4 children per table. An adult must be present at each table. Please provide the name of all attending artists as well as the ages of all children so Coral can help create customized magical art experiences for each family. Encompassing art themes for each class will be: October 3rd - Abundance October 17th - Joy October 24th - Gratitude (Rain dates will be the following day on Sunday the 4th, 18th and 25th at the same time) |
Preschool Art Program (Ages 3-5 years old)
with Coral Shockey Day: Mondays Time: 9:00 – 11:00AM Dates: TBD Location: Children’s Art Studio Cost: $30 per class (10% discount applied to full session) Featherstone's Preschool Art Series is a weekly art class designed to provide preschoolers a creative environment where they are encouraged to discover and color their world through different art mediums. Relevant children's literature will be seamlessly intertwined with the class theme to further develop perspective and comprehension of their world. - Paint, Clay, Collage exploratory curriculum Come join Coral Monday mornings for some preschool art making fun! |
Toddler Art Program (Ages 15 months - 2.9 years old)
with Coral Shockey Day: Tuesdays Time: 9:30 – 10:30AM Dates: TBD Location: Children’s Art Studio Cost: $15 per class (10% discount applied to full session) Set in a small art room environment with art exploration tables and painting easels. Caregivers are required to stay and encouraged to be present in the art experience. -Material based curriculum in Clay, Painting and Architecture *Class size is limited to 8 toddlers. |
Art Explorers (Ages 6-9 years old)
Days: Wednesdays Time: 3:00 – 5:30PM Dates: TBD Location: Children’s Art Studio Cost: $35 per class (10% discount applied to full session) As Featherstone’s Art Explorers, children will be introduced to functional design, aesthetics and creative problem solving using Form, Shape, and Space as their guides. Each artist will have the opportunity to utilize a variety of mediums including Collage, Drawing, Fiber Arts, Mixed Media, Murals, Painting, Paper Making, Printmaking and Sculpture to help find their visual voice and further their creative self-expression. Our skills and ideas will develop as the seasons change. “Anything can happen, and that’s the beauty of art.” |
Children's Ceramic Exploration (for children ages 7+)
with Nancy Blank and Sabrina Kuchta Day: Saturdays Dates: TBD Time: 10:00AM - 12:00PM Location: Pottery Studio Fee: $30 per class In this class, we will explore various techniques in hand building. From decorative planters to dragons to mugs, students will learn and experiment with multiple techniques in construction and decoration of functional and sculptural pieces. All artwork will be bisque fired after each class. PLEASE NOTE: This is a hand building class, no wheels will be used. |
Ceramics: Children's Wheel Throwing (for children ages 10+)
with Nancy Blank Day: Saturday Dates: TBD Time: 1:00 to 3:00PM Location: Pottery Studio Fee: $150 for full session (6 classes) Students must participate in all 6 classes of the session. 6 week session: Week 1: wedging, wheel introduction and centering Weeks 2-4: throwing practice Week 5-6: glazing (fired work can be picked up during Open Pottery Studio the following week) Wheel Throwing is a complicated skill that requires many hours of practice to grow muscle memory. We find that multiple classes are necessary and our six week course is ideal in mastering the art of wheel throwing. |
