Market Art

April 11, 2011
Monday 6:00 - 8:00PM
Featherstone Center for the Arts
A Presentation with Martha’s Vineyard Woman’s Network & Vineyard Voice

You're an artist, not a business person.  But today's world demands that artists use all the same tools other businesses utilize to be successful - social media, advertising, and careful business planning.  Four panelists — Nancy Shaw Cramer, owner of Shaw Cramer Gallery, Elizabeth Whelan, artist, businesswoman and designer of brands and marketing campaigns, Jennifer McCurdy, world-renowned ceramicist, and Patrick Phillips, online and video-based art-community builder — will share their experiences and knowledge related to the business and marketing of art. Come prepared to hear about the business of web, print and social media marketing and to ask insightful questions. This practical, panel discussion will provide key market-art knowledge and will help you better engage in the business of art. It will be useful for anyone engaged in creative work.

The $10 fee applies to all participants. There will be no additional walk-in fee, but pre-registration is urged, since space is limited.

Light refreshments served

Martha's Vineyard Jazz Festival

August 6 -13, 2011
The Martha’s Vineyard Jazz Festival will donate $5 from each ticket sold to Featherstone Center for the Arts, in honor of its 15th Anniversary.

Soft breezes, swaying melodies, and educational workshops. These and more, will capture the fancy of Martha’s Vineyard next August. From August 6-13, 2011, Martha’s Vineyard will resonate with the sounds of jazz. From a concert by popular Watertown native Nnenna Freelon, to appearances by saxophonist Antonio Hart, attendees will be treated to the best the genre has to offer. In venues across the historic resort, fans will gather to listen, learn, and experience what promises to become a beloved annual event. The festival is being coordinated by founder and executive producer John Lee, a long time island vacationer, and Newton native and associate producer Stephen Anglin. Both men share a love of jazz and Martha’s Vineyard, that inspired the vision of the festival.

There will also be educational elements hosted by partners such as the Berklee School of Music. Longtime Island innkeeper and former Vineyard
Regional High School counselor Doris Clark will exhibit a collection of her father’s jazz photos from the 1930's - 1940's called "My Daddy's Pictures". In addition, an exhibit at the Shephard Fine ArtSpace will feature local, regional and national visual artists.

As a part of our 2011 Musical Mondays and in conjunction with MV Jazz Fest- Featherstone will be featuring An Evening of Jazz with Michele Holland and Friends, August 8 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
