Come celebrate the revival of the Industrial Arts at the 2nd Annual Iron on the Island!!!

From 12:00 - 5:00PM create your own cast iron art.
Anyone can create a beautiful memory in the form of a cast iron relief made of iron from/on the island!! Carve a Scratch block for $30 or a scratch bowl ($50)

Crew members will be showing demos and providing materials. All ages welcome (children assisted by adults please)

After you are done carving your block or bowl join us around the roaring furnace!

From 6:00 - 9:00PM come watch the sparks Fly!
Artists will work to continually feed the furnace with chunks of old sinks, bathtubs, and radiators until a temperature of 2650 degrees is reached. Once hot enough, the furnace will be tapped allowing up to 120lbs of glowing orange/red molten iron to pour out into a handmade ladle. The ladle is carried to the molds where the metal is carefully poured into each one to give the old iron a new life in the form of sculptural objects. This process is continuous, producing another 120lbs about every 10 minutes. As the evening grows darker the beauty of the molten metal will become more and more spectacular! Once all molds have been poured we end with “dropping bottom” on the furnace, a beautiful and satisfying display of all the contents remaining within the furnace being evacuated.
Pick up of all artwork will be Sunday September 27th from 1:00 - 4:00PM at Featherstone.
We hope you join us for a wonderful day watching the sparks fly!
