June 10 - June 14 "Across the Pond and Back" works by Inas Al-soqi and Marshall Pratt
Opening Reception Sunday, June 10, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.The Pebble Gallery, Featherstone, Oak BluffsContinues through June 14 12:00 – 4:00 p.m. Daily"Across the Pond and Back" is a collection of work done by visual artists Inas Al-soqi and Marshall Pratt in the last year and a half. The work was created both on the Island and in Amsterdam as part of a four month artist in residency in South East Amsterdam. In addition Inas has included a piece made at a printshop in Murano, Venice. The artwork displayed is a representation of the two young artists and partners trudging through the post-graduation, both at home and abroad. It shows exploration of both medium and concept, and what lies just beyond one's comfort zone.

"Unbroken" Mosaic, Sculpture and Drawings by Karen Ami
This series of work reflects the themes of regeneration and transformation through the delicacy of mosaics, voluptuous sculptures and drawings. The works resonates with sensual form color and texture. Karen Ami is the Founder and Executive Director of The Chicago Mosaic School and is President Emeritus of The Society of American Mosaic Artists. Ms. Ami lectures and exhibits around the world yet always returns to her home to her family and studio in Chicago.
Karen will also be teaching a workshop July 10, 11, 12
Artist Biography:
Karen Ami is the Founder and Executive Director of the first school dedicated to the study of ancient and contemporary mosaics, The Chicago Mosaic School. Although she has taught Mosaics for many years and lecturing in Mosaic Arts and Ceramics locally and internationally for many yearsShe has a BFA from Tufts University, is a graduate of the Diploma and Post Baccalaureate programs from The Boston Museum School, a MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a Masters in Mosaic from Scuolo Orsoni Mosaici. Additionally Ms. Ami and has completed research and independent study in Ecuador, Costa Rica, Mexico, Ireland, and Nevis, West Indies and has received numerous rewards and study grants. A working artist for over 30 years, she has exhibited her sculptural and mosaic work in galleries and museums around the world, such as The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Museo Italimericano, San Francisco, and The Academy of Fine Arts, Sarajevo.Ms Ami has written numerous articles for publications , magazines and blogs and has lectured about contemporary mosaics here and abroad. She has designed, built, and installed several public art projects for the City of Chicago including Chicago’s Navy Pier , the Coolglobes Project, and many public and private institutions in the Midwest. Ms. Ami is President Emeritus of The Society of American Mosaic Artists and has served on its Board of Directors for over 7 years. She is a member of The Chicago Artists Coalition, Womens Caucus for Art, The Chicago Artists Coalition, The British Association of Modern Mosaic, the Mosaic Association of New Zealand and Australia and Associazioni Internazionale Mosaicisti Contemporanei.
