One day workshop

Friday, September 12

Time: 1:30 - 4:30
Location: The Studio

Grab a large paintbrush, acrylic paints, gesso and textures creating gels, apply to different size papers and let the paint flow in an intuitive, gestural manner. Add splatters and drips to convey your inner energy and rhythms. In other paintings, add large color fields, write into them with sticks dipped in ink or liquid acrylic and continue expressing yourself. Place some structure on these paintings using texture, lines, the grid or other formats. This is an opportunity to play with the materials where there is no wrong way!!

Because the instructor will supply the materials (brushes; papers; black and white gessoes; fluid acrylics, modeling paste, gels, and texture making tools), there will be a $15.00 supply fee.

Encaustics: Painting with Wax
Roberta Gross

Saturday & Sunday, Sept 20 - 21
SOLD OUT
Times: 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Location: The Studio
Fee: $150
for each two day workshop plus an additional $75 materials fee

Encaustic painting involves fusing layers of melted wax and specially treated wax-infused pigments by applying a heat source (e.g., heat gun; iron).  Because of the fluid nature and the layering involved in encaustics, the process lends itself to both collage as well as luminous, abstract paintings.   In addition, it is possible to create encaustic monotypes by working directly from the waxes on a heated surface.

During the class, we will work both with papers, hard boards, and fabrics. exploring how layering, embedding objects, scratching into, etching, masking, dripping, splattering, creating an underpainting, etc.  affects the encaustic painting.

Because the instructor will provide all materials including encaustics; wax; brushes; painting surfaces; heat guns and electric skillets, there will be a $75.00 fee.
(You can purchase extra boards and paper from the instructor during class).

Class supplies the student needs to provide:
Bring collage materials, including photos, prints, and thin objects.
