Elena De La Ville

Basic Beeswax Collage Workshop with Elena De La Ville

Date: Wednesday, June 10
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Fee: $75 plus additional $15 supplies fee due to the instructor
Location: The Pebble Studio

Learn how to create a collage entirely with beeswax - no other glues or adhesives are
necessary! You will discover and practice techniques including layering, transparency and wax stamping. Supplies will be provided for basic collages, but feel free to bring your favorite images and ephemera as well to personalize your art. Any images you bring should be on regular computer paper or Xerox. The thinner the better, (reduce and enlarge these to have choice in scale). Glossy photos will not work well with this process, but fabric, stencils and small 3-D objects work great!

Elena De La Ville is a Mixed Media artist working with Photography, Encaustic and Collage. She studied painting at the School of Fine Arts, Venezuela; Textile Design at the Chelsea School of Art in London and Photography at the Art Institute of Boston. Her work has been exhibited at the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, Venezuela; Danforth Museum of Art in Massachusetts; Shaw Cramer and Dragonfly Galleries on Martha’s Vineyard. She is an Instructor at: Ringling
College of Art; Continuing Studies and Special Programs, Long Boat Key Center for the Arts, St Petersburg Art Center and Art Center Manatee.

Beeswax Collage Workshop Supply list:
Clayboard or hardboard panels
Oil paints and brushes
Heat Gun or Hairdryer (I have found the heat gun works better), Images on Paper, (Thinner
is better!) Xerox your photographs, Crayons, Scissors, Paper towels, iron, old book page, X-acto knife and newspapers.

The Creativity of Non-Doing: A Calligraphy Workshop with Alok Hsu Kwang-han

Date: Thursday, July 16 and Friday, July 17
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Location: The Pebble Studio
Fee: $375 for the two day workshop - Please bring lunch.

This workshop is for artists as well as non-artists, who are drawn to the adventure of being intimate with the unknown, from where the intelligence, creativity, and good humor outside the boundaries of our familiarity find us. In this not knowing, we can be amazed that through our being, fresh new forms arise from formlessness this moment!

During the workshop you will learn to hold your new brushes as friends and move with them in harmony. Through simple and effective energy and meditation exercises, you will more and more come to rest in the spaciousness of your being. While "resting in presence and moving from emptiness" you might pick up a brush, dip it in ink or water, and allow one stroke to happen on the xuan paper, and marvel.

Continuing with non-doing, we might experiment with painting the "energy" of music, a poem, a partner acting like a wild animal, the Lord of Chaos, a moment of joy.
Throughout the two days, we will share our experiences in gentle and humorous ways, thereby also become more relaxed and available to Existence.

Each participant will receive 3 exquisite Chinese brushes designed by Alok, china ink, xuan paper, wool felt, etc.
